“Be Well”

“Be Well”

You walked by while I waited
a chance moment
a glance
a kind smile between strangers
Be well
our eyes seemed to say
on this crispy morning
choosing to see the other
in the swirling hubbub of humanity
Bon voyage to you
and soon to me
our silver birds
winging their respective ways across the skies
unexpected gifts given
and received
connecting with one I will never see again
would not recognize if I did
yet will know forever.

A poem written while waiting for my flight in Long Beach, where passengers walk past an outdoor waiting area to board from the tarmac.
