“Lotus Pool”

Time stood still as they watched. I could feel it all the way from the other end of the pool.

Look daddy
Ooh I see
Clouds are in the water
Yes there they are
Noses inches from the surface
leaning over the edge
of the lotus pool
keeping steady watch
together
mesmerized by reflections
swaying in the breeze
sparkles surprise their eyes
laughter to their hearts
small hand darts into the pool
curious with wonder
deep warm chuckle follows
puzzle wrinkles the small brow
Why can’t I catch the sun?
Lotus flowers float
and sing to the sky.

"Lotus Pool", a poem inspired by this father and son at the Huntington Gardens. The father’s attentiveness to his little son’s interest, the joining in on the wonder took my breath away. It was a sweet and sacred stitch taken in the bond between them. Wishing them many shared moments like this woven through all the years of their lives. Happy early Father’s Day to this young Dad!
